The book is based on articles written by Bhagat Puran Singh ji during his life time study on environment issues started in 1934. The book also includes present day data on the environment concerns. Dr. Adarsh Vig from the department of Botanical and Environmental studies of Guru Nanak Dev University carried out a thorough review of the Book before its release. Dr. Jairup Singh Ji, Vice Chancellor Guru Nanak Dev University released the book. Speaking on the occasion he said that what we are facing today was clearly brought out by Bhagatji more than 50 years back. Implementation of those points has been very late. He also made everyone aware about the depleting water table of Punjab and emphasized that even the deep water has been contaminated. The water we drink, the vegetables we eat all are contaminated. In a very serious problem of great magnitude of which hardly anyone is aware, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh have been affected by the depleted Uranium weapons used by America in Afghanistan. People of Afghanistan and Pakistan are worse affected. This would result in increased cases of cancer, skin diseases. Moreover, the effect is likely to continue for a thousand years affecting all the generations to come. No attention has been paid by the state or the Central Government, however, studies on this problem have been initiated by GNDU.
